The International Canoe Federation and Europe’s number one sports destination, Eurosport, have announced an exciting two-year deal which will guarantee live coverage of canoeing ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The deal will see all ICF canoe slalom and canoe sprint World Cup events including Olympic Qualification in 2019 and 2020 covered live on Eurosport, the home of the Olympics in Europe and one of the world’s most watched television sport networks.
“This partnership is another key development in Eurosport’s journey to Tokyo 2020, strengthening our ambition to tell the year-round stories of Olympic sports,” Laurent Prud’homme, Eurosport SVP Rights Acquisitions and Syndication, said.
“Fans of canoeing across Europe can now watch the sport’s key events on our linear and digital platforms, fuelling their interest in the sport’s biggest heroes, and the future stars, who will shine in Tokyo.”
ICF Secretary General, Simon Toulson, said the deal was an enormous boost for both sprint and slalom.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase our Olympic disciplines on Eurosport’s linear and digital platforms,” he said.
“It’s a vote of confidence in the standing of canoe slalom and canoe sprint in the sporting community. We know from past experience working with Eurosport that they are an excellent broadcast partner, and will
work hard to promote our product.
“And the canoeing community will be thrilled to know their sporting heroes will be on display on a network with the reputation of Eurosport.”
The deal will see coverage of five ICF Canoe Slalom World Cups and two ICF Canoe Sprint World Cups in both 2019 and 2020. Each World Cup will be an important part of the build-up and qualification for Tokyo 2020, guaranteeing the very best athletes will be on show.
